As a general rule, you are able to bill for the services provided by a locum tenens physician. Private payers have different guidelines and you should check with each payer before submitting a claim. Medicare rules state a locum tenens physician may provide coverage for a period not to exceed 60 consecutive days. Services should be billed using the Q6 modifier.
